There is just something about the dropped temperatures that act as an open invitation for the pesky virus. While bacterial infections can be cured with antibiotics, when it comes to the flu, people just have to ride it out. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t do things to boost your immune system and speed up recovery. While rest and plenty of fluids are key to beating the flu, you can also get a helping hand by consuming antiviral herbs. The properties in licorice root are able to reduce the severity of the flu by inhibiting viral replication. Licorice root also helps to soothe a sore or scratchy throat. Try brewing a licorice root tea or take it in capsule form. It can be purchased from most health food stores.
