5 Tips To Lose Weight While You Sleep
When you are asleep, you can create an optimal state for weight loss if you just adjust your bedtime routine. While it’s common knowledge that getting a good nights sleep is the key to a leaner body, there are also other things that you can do to benefit your waistline. By tweaking your nighttime ritual, you will facilitate your body in becoming the best version of itself. Here are five tips to losing weight while you sleep.
Reduce Your Room Temperature
Studies have shown that sleeping in a cooler room can lead to weight loss as your body burns more calories throughout the night to stay warm. A study published in Diabetes journal illustrated that when male volunteers slept in a room with a temperature of 66°F (18.9°C), they increase the amount of brown fat (good fat) in their body. An increase in brown fat cut 7 percent more calories while the individuals slept.
Drink Protein Before Bed
Burn more calories while you sleep by consuming a protein shake filled with casein instead of whey before bed. Casein is a slow-release protein that leads to better metabolic function overnight. A study conducted at the Florida State University revealed that individual’s who “drank a 150-calorie protein shake 30 to 60 minutes before bed experienced a faster metabolism and lower blood pressure.”
Wake Up At The Same Time
Waking up within a similar time frame every single day can lead to weight-loss. A Birmingham Young University Study illustrated that women who woke up within the same hour-long window every morning on average weighed less than those women who did not. No matter what your schedule may be, aim to get 7-8 hours of sleep and wake up at the same time every day. Studies have also shown that losing even an hour of sleep can make you hungrier, which results in poorer food choices throughout the day.
Drink Green Tea
While you don’t want to drink green tea too close to your bedtime as it does contain caffeine, if you drink it throughout the day the effects will last for the night time. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, consuming 3 cups of green tea a day will burn 3.5 percent more calories overnight.
Lift Weights In The Evening
Lifting weights in the evening will result in more calories being burned while you are asleep. Although there have been studies negating the benefits of an evening workout, if you consume a protein shake and take a shower before bed you will still have a good nights sleep. A study conducted by the University of Southern Mississippi in 2005 followed 16 males around for ten weeks, recording their exercise patterns. Half of the group worked out in the morning at 10 a.m. while the other half worked out at 6 p.m. Upon completion of the study, the results showed that the group that worked out in the evening decreased their body fat by 4 percent. Researchers concluded that this could be because you are increasing your metabolism at a time when it typically slows down.
