4 Effective Natural Remedies To Reduce A Fever

When your body develops a fever and the chills, aches, and pains, weakness, loss of appetite and that feeling of burning skin kicks in, it can be one of the most debilitating feelings. While a fever in most cases is a good thing as it is your body’s natural response to warding off infection, it can be entirely uncomfortable to deal with. So while reaching for the over the counter meds like Tylenol and Advil can certainly help reduce your fever there are other natural remedies you can try to make yourself more comfortable. According to the National Institutes of Health, an adult has a fever when their body temperature surpasses 37.2-37.5 degrees. Try these 4 at home remedies to ease symptoms and reduce your fever.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar provides an array of health benefits when used properly and one of those benefits is warding off infection and reducing one’s body temperature. The acid within it helps to draw heat from the skin while the minerals within in it, replenish those lost when sweating during a fever. Mix one part ACV with two parts warm water in a bowl. Soak a washcloth in the mixture and then wrap it around your feet. Sit for 10-15 minutes and repeat if necessary. You can also mix 2 teaspoons of ACV with one tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm water. Drink up to three times a day until the fever improves.  

Raisins & Lime Juice

Raisins have antioxidant and antibacterial properties, which aid the body in the fight against infection. Lime juice is full of Vitamins and works with the raisins to create an effective fever fighting tonic. Soak 30 raisins in a cup and a half of water until the raisins are soft to touch (generally one hour). Use the back of a spoon to crush the raisins in the water then pour the liquid from the raisins into a mug. Add the juice of half a lime. Drink these twice a day as long as you need before the fever disappears.

Ginger

Ginger has antiviral and antibacterial properties, which help to boost the immune system and ward off infection. Ginger can also help remove heat from the body thereby making it useful in reducing a fever. Grate a teaspoon and a half worth of fresh organic ginger and add it to one cup of boiling water and some honey. Let it sit for four minutes before consuming it. Or mix 1.5 teaspoons of ginger with a teaspoon of lemon, and a tablespoon of honey. Take this 2-3 times a day while fever is present.

Garlic

Garlic has antifungal and antibacterial properties, promotes sweating and helps the body to rid itself of toxins. Mince one clove of garlic and add it to a cup of hot water. Steep this concoction for ten minutes and then sip it very slowly for fever fighting effects. Drink this garlic tea 1-2 times a day.
