5 Natural Ways To Cleanse Your Lungs
Regardless of if you are a smoker or not, it’s important to take care of your lungs as the air we breathe is filled with toxins and pollutants that take their toll. Although it can be difficult to control things such as outdoor pollution and chemicals in indoor areas, there are some things you can do to detoxify your lungs. When you follow a few natural steps to detoxify your lungs, you are making the organ stronger thus reducing your chances of illness and infection. Try these five ways to cleanse your lungs and boost the health of your respiratory system.
Breathing Exercises
Taking the time every day to do breathing exercises can make a world of difference when it comes to your lung health. Whether you attend a yoga class where they do them or do them on your own time, it is important to fit them into your schedule. While there are various breathing exercises you can do, you can try this one to start. Take a deep inhale and hold your breath for a count of five. Then slowly exhale for a count of five. Just when you start to feel like you have nothing left to exhale push yourself to exhale a little more so that you are blowing the air out from the bottom of your lungs and stomach. Repeat this exercise 9 times.
Essential Oils
Inhaling essential oils can not only help improve things like your mood and sleeping patterns, but it can also cleanse the lungs. Just boil a pot of water then take it off the stove and place it on a heat-resistant surface. Add 2-3 drops of peppermint oil, eucalyptus, thyme or rosemary and put your head over the bowl. Cover your head with a towel and inhale deeply with your eyes closed. Do this for up to ten minutes or as long as you feel comfortable. Inhaling essential oils 2-3 times a week can rid your lungs of mucus and toxins.
Chilli
Consuming spicy food like chilli can help to rid the lungs of excess mucus and tar. Just as the heat from the chilli affects your sinuses, it has a similar effect on your lungs. Spicy food is not for everyone, so be sure to check with your healthcare provider if you are worried it may cause heartburn, indigestion or worsen a pre-existing problem.
Nettle Tea
Nettle possesses detoxifying properties for the lungs and can help to purify the blood. The herb contains iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, vitamin D and Vitamin K, to name a few. Either brew the herbs yourself or buy nettle tea from a health store to receive all of the cleansing benefits. Nettle helps to cleanse the lungs while helping to protect against lung disease and bronchitis.
Ginger
Consuming ginger root mixed in warm water as a tea can help to clear up the respiratory tract and eliminate toxins. You can also receive similar benefits by putting ginger powder into a warm bath. Inhaling the ginger and sitting in it for twenty minutes, will help your body to sweat out toxins.
